I recall the Prop. 8 advocates did just that.

The pension-reform crowd might well have gotten a raw deal from Harris, but it seems — from afar — like an excuse to drop an underfunded campaign. If they had serious backing to push the initiatives in the first place, they’d have a lawyer to work that angle.
