Don’t Think Too Long On This
Steven Greenhut: California has produced a cottage industry of phony reformers who claim they want to fix the state, but they never want to touch the real problems — public sector unions, overspending, inadequate representation, too much regulation, etc. They always have names such as California Forward or whatnot. The latest is called Think Long — a group of well-known “reformers” including Willie Brown, Condoleezza Rice, Eli Broad, Gray Davis and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Please, pick yourself up off the floor after laughing so hard you coughed up your spleen. Didn’t many of these folks have their chance and blow it? Brown, Davis and Schwarzenegger did more to create our problem than to fix it. Their solution is — drum roll please — a massive tax restructuring that leads to much higher taxes. Hold the presses. Don’t think too long and hard on this nonsense. NOV. 21, 2011

If the state could just figure out a way to tax Ahnold’s philandering and hypocrisy the budget would be in the black.
Sadly, we thought long about Think Long. We don’t consider ourselves better off for the experience.
Think Long’s first idea: raise taxes. Not surprising, considering that Think Long also includes:
- (SEIU/AFL-CIO) labor activist Maria Durazo
- ACORN-connected MALDEF radical latino activist Antonia Henandez
- rent-seeking green investor and former pol Bob Hertzberg
- Obama advisor and Google CEO Eric Schmidt
- “Smart Grid” investor Terry Semel
- Soros-connected leftist Berkeley law prof Laura Tyson
Think Long might better be called Think Big (Government).
It also includes George Schultz, Gerald Parsky, and a bunch of other Republicans, as well as a billionaire angel willing to provide $20 million to get it on the ballot and passed.
All in all, it’s a good idea with a good chance of actually passing.
