By signing into law AB 499 on Oct. 9, Gov. Jerry Brown declared war on California families. He took away the sacred right of mothers and fathers to raise their children as they see fit, seriously endangering the kids’ health — while enriching Merck, the Big Pharma drug company.

AB 499, by Assemblywoman Toni Atkins, D-San Diego, in the bill’s language “authorizes a minor, who is 12 years of age or older, to consent to medical care related to the prevention of a sexually transmitted disease.”

As I reported in an exclusive investigation for CalWatchDog.com, “Merck Bankrolled Anti-Parent Bill,” the major impetus behind AB 499 was the giant chemical company which will make millions of dollars from the law. Merck, as I detailed, donated $39,500 to the campaigns of 25 key Democratic legislators. These included powerful Assembly Speaker John Perez, who grabbed $1,500 from Merck.

Merck makes Gardasil, the major drug that will be injected into the innocent young girls’ bodies. Gardasil is supposed to prevent them from getting human papilloma virus, which can cause cervical cancer. But it is a dangerous drug, as I detailed in my earlier story, leading to severe medical problems, even death. I’ll provide more details below.

Usurping Parents

Randy Thommason, president of the parents’ rights group SaveCalifornia.com, charged in a statement: “By signing AB 499 to coerce minors into risky Gardasil shots, Jerry Brown is deceptively telling preteen girls it will protect them from HPV, giving them a false sense of security that they can have all the sexual activity they want without risking developing cervical cancer or a raft of other negative consequences.”

That’s 12-year-olds.

Thommason continued: “And Brown is telling parents he doesn’t want them to be in charge of their own children. He obviously doesn’t care about informed consent for patients or parental consent for dads and moms. This is yet another reason for loving parents to rescue their precious children from government schools, which will be the #1 place targeting girls for these coerced injections. Under this new law, even preteen and teen boys will be targeted for HPV shots behind their parents’ backs.

“Brown has no excuse to deny patients essential information and trample parents’ consent for their children, who lack the brain development to make big decisions like this. It is unfair and wrong for AB 499 to coerce children behind their parents’ backs, when calling or emailing a child’s mother or father to set an appointment is the respectful way to communicate vital information and answer important questions. Yet this bill infringes on people’s God-given rights.

“These injections don’t cover all the HPV strains that can contribute to cervical cancer. But girls will be told they’re ‘expected’ to have sex, and not be warned that, even with the Gardasil shots, premarital sexual activity can still result in HPV and other sexually transmitted infections, as well as pregnancy, abortion, and emotional heartbreak. AB 499 further endangers minors who are foolish enough to be sexually active, when abstinence-only education would work effectively to protect them. This is bad public policy. Annual Pap tests, starting at age 21, actually protect women from the risk of cervical cancer much more than a series of Gardasil shots, which has only a temporary effect.

“How in the world can a 12- or 13-year-old girl provide informed consent when she’s not told the risks and limitations of the drug, and she lacks the brain development and necessary wisdom to make this serious decision? She can’t even drive a car or vote or get married, but she can consent to this? Jerry Brown has declared war on California parents. This is a sad day for mothers and fathers, for children, for true health, for informed consent, and for all who hunger for good government.”

Gardasil Can Kill

As I reported in my first article, Merck’s own site on the vaccine, Gardasil.com, explicitly warns:

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION

Anyone who is allergic to the ingredients of GARDASIL, including those severely allergic to yeast, should not receive the vaccine. GARDASIL is not for women who are pregnant.

The side effects include pain, swelling, itching, bruising, and redness at the injection site, headache, fever, nausea, dizziness, vomiting, and fainting. Fainting can happen after getting GARDASIL. Sometimes people who faint can fall and hurt themselves. For this reason, your health care professional may ask you to sit or lie down for 15 minutes after you get GARDASIL. Some people who faint might shake or become stiff. This may require evaluation or treatment by your health care professional.

Only a doctor or health care professional can decide if GARDASIL is right for you or your child.

Using the Freedom of Information Act, Judicial Watch also has obtained the records of patients who have suffered severe side effects, including death, from Gardasil.

Judicial Watch’s summary: “The adverse reactions include 16 new deaths (including four suicides) between May 2009 and September 2010. The FDA also produced 789 “serious” reports, with 213 cases resulting in permanent disability and 25 resulting in a diagnosis of Guillain Barre Syndrome.”

FDA Reports

Here are two of those Gardasil reports, verbatim:

Case No. V. 339375, a 10-year-old girl: “On 15-JAN-2009, a 10 year old female with allergy to AMPICILLIN SULBACTAM was vaccinated IM into the right arm with the first dose of GARDASIL (lot # 0719X). There was no concomitant therapy. There was no preexisting illness. Thirteen days later on 28-JAN-2009 and for 3 days the patient had vomit, dizziness and cephalgia, later vertiginous sensation. On 31-JAN-2009, the patient presented a frank ataxia gait and progressive loss of strength in lower and upper extremities almost totally in the following 3 days with loss of osteotendinous reflexes. They had taken a normal brain computed axial tomography (CT) scan, a normal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and nerve conduction studies compatible with GBS. She started treatment with immunoglobulin with a response in 72 hours and almost total recovery of the motor function. Vertiginous felling and cephalgia still persisted. The listing indicated that one or more of the events required hospitalization, was considered to be immediately life-threatening.”

She was fortunate. She lived.

Case No. V. 356938, a 19-year-old female. “Symptoms: Headache, Nausea, dizziness, chilling, tiredness, shortness of breath, complained of chest plain, severe cramps. 9/14/09 Received vaccine & PCP medical records which reveal patient seen 12/5/07 & 2/27/08 with sore throat, fever, chills, fatigue, body aches, productive cough w/yellow sputum & HA. Dx both times w/acute bronchitis & tx w/antibiotics & cough syrup. 9/25/09 Autopsy report received DOD 09/12/2008. Acute Cardiac Arrhythmia of Unknown Etiology.

“Additional information abstracted: Heart with focal microscopic ischemic changes, pulmonary congestion and edema. Rare petechiae: conjunctival, periorbital and laryngeal. Resuscitation related sternal fracture.”

She died.
