We should split the state as John has suggested.

And if John can help get this done I'd vote for him for governor of the new East state.

I propose new names for the two new states: Taxifornia and Seileria :)

Well John, if we split the state then you won't have to leave.

Good Question John. I would have have asked the same question, only I left California two weeks after I retired. Oh, I return now and then to visit family, but only as often as necessary.....

David: You make some good points.

Now, here's another serious question: Why do I remain in this state, subject to its Soviet-level taxes and absurd laws?

Serious question: why don't you favor allowing the legislature and governor to pass both the budget and taxes by majority vote? Why won't you allow them to make these decisions, and then be held accountable for them? If the budget and taxes are deeply unpopular, as you insist they are, then won't the current majority be defeated, and your views moved into the majority in the next election? As it stands, nobody gets what they want, everyone can blame someone else, and it's a giant mess.

Unless you are willing to let views you disagree with become law -- so that they can, as you see it, be repudiated and replaced in the next election -- then aren't you just opposed to representative democracy itself? Is that really your position, that your only in favor of democracy if you win all the time?
