All one has to do is look at the voter reg numbers.

Since February 2009 (rounded raw numbers):

Democrats lost 147K
Republicans lost 90K
Libertarians GAINED 8K

Seems to me pretty clear that the big-government parties are losing favor, and small government politics is growing more popular every day.

The third party sought is the Libertarians.

None of the republicans in California are conservatives. They are part of the ruling elite nd will fight long and hard to stay there. The republican party is not the place to look for conservativism or small government principles. It is no longer the "party of Reagan" and it hasn't been that way for many years now. It really is time for a conservative or tea party to emerge as a 3rd party. The GOP cannot be fixed, as it is populated by professional office holders who want to suck up to the media and have not the courage to fight for any principle other than the expediency that might have the possibility of currying favor with the left wing media.
