Tacky Unprofessional Newspaper trick
Katy Grimes: In today’s Sacramento Bee is a piece in the editorial pages about the race between U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer and Carly Fiorina. However, the photos chosen by The Bee editorial staff are the real story.  (Eddie Munster vs. a much younger Boxer) It looks as if The Bee darkened Fiorina’s photo, making her look more like Eddie Munster.  Eddie Munster And the really egregious aspect, is that the photo of Barbara Boxer is probably 20 to 30 years old. Yeah, I looked younger 20 to 30 years ago too. I tried to find the story at The Bee online, but couldn’t. Perhaps they got enough email response, that it was scrubbed from the website. When newspapers pull this nasty trick, it is most unprofessional and frankly, really tacky.  current picture of Senator Barbara Boxer

Doing these kinds of things at the Bee is not surprising, at all. The Bee has been a mouthpiece for liberal Democrat politics for as long as I can remember, which goes back to the mid-70s. Of course, they became very corporate and merciless when the unionize employees went on strike, years ago. Fired a ton of them and fought any reinstatments.

The old photo does show Babs had that hair problem even 20 years ago. She needs Hillary’s hairdresser.
You have identified the very reason that the Sacramento Bee is in decline. However, the problem with Boxer is not her grasp of her hair problem.
Carly couldn’t help it if she was having a bad hair day.
BTW, Todd, the Bee’s constant editorials on slashing pensions for state employees hardly make it a liberal mouthpiece. Some of the stuff by such folks as Ginger Rutland and Dan Walters would fit right in on this blog.
In 1990, when I ran for State Senate District 6 against Democrat Leroy Greene, the first article The Bee wrote covering the campaigns carried a picture of each of the three candidates, Greene, Murray, and I. Greene’s picture was a studio shot, Murray’s was darkened such that he looked like a gangster, and mine was taken at conference where I was a speaker. It was full face, with my mouth wide open. I looked like an imbecile. I used the picture when I spoke to college students interested in politics as an illustration of how newspapers can use pictures to help candidates they support.
